The CEMC exam is a rigorous test of a coder's ability to interpret medical records and accurately assign E/M codes.

The core competencies covered by the CEMC exam encompass a deep understanding of E/M history, examination, and medical decision-making (MDM) components across all ranges of patient encounters.

You must be able to properly apply current CPT® E/M guidelines for office visits, hospitalizations, consultations, emergency department services, and critical care.

The exam also tests your ability to correctly use CPT®, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II code sets and modifiers when they relate specifically to E/M services.

What to Expect in the Final Exam

The final CEMC certification exam is a 100-question, proctored multiple-choice test designed to measure proficiency in E/M coding.

You are given four hours to complete the exam. It is administered in a single four-hour sitting.

A minimum score of 70% is required to pass the exam and earn the CEMC credential.

The exam is "open book," allowing examinees to reference their current-year CPT®, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II code books.

You may take the exam online at your home with a live remote proctor, or in person at a designated testing center.
