Spatial Ability: This section assesses your capacity to mentally manipulate, rotate, and organize two- and three-dimensional shapes and patterns. This skill is critical for tasks involving map reading, engineering, equipment operation, and recognizing technical schematics.

Problem Solving: This is the most complex section, evaluating your logical reasoning, mathematical ability, and analytic thinking. The syllabus covers fundamental arithmetic, percentages, fractions, simple algebra, and number series, all presented as timed, complex logic puzzles or word problems.

 What to Expect in the Final Exam

The actual CFAT is a timed, proctored exam. While it can sometimes be administered via computer, the core structure remains consistent. It is a strictly multiple-choice assessment, and speed is a significant factor. You must solve complex problems quickly and accurately.

There are 60 multiple-choice questions in total, divided into three separately timed sections:

Verbal Section: 15 questions, to be completed in 5 minutes. (Extremely fast-paced)

Spatial Ability Section: 15 questions, to be completed in 10 minutes.

Problem Solving Section: 30 questions, to be completed in 30 minutes.

The total test time, including instructions and breaks, is typically around 60–90 minutes.

Importantly, your final score is not just a percentage. It generates a cognitive profile used to determine which specific military occupations you qualify for. A "pass" is subjective, as different job trades have different minimum CFAT threshold scores. Failing to meet the threshold for your desired trade might limit your career options within the CAF.

Simulate Test Conditions: The CFAT is intense because of the tight time constraints. Regular practice must be timed. Practice solving arithmetic without a calculator (as none are allowed). Train your brain to recognize analogies and patterns quickly.

Taking the Exam:
