What to Expect in the Final Exam

The CFER exam is a rigorous, standardized test that measures your competency against national standards. It is a computer-based examination (CBT) taken at an authorized testing center.

• Exam Format: The examination consists solely of multiple-choice questions. Each question has four possible answers, with only one being correct. There are no practical or hands-on components.
• Number of Questions: You can expect to encounter 100 scored multiple-choice questions. It is important to answer every question, as there is no penalty for guessing.
• Time Limit: Candidates are allowed 2 hours (120 minutes) to complete the entire examination. This allows for approximately 72 seconds per question. Effective time management is key.
• Passing Score: The CFER exam is scored on a scaled spectrum. A scaled score of 70 is required to pass the examination. Your raw score (the number of questions you got correct) is converted into this scaled score.
• Rules: No study materials, cellular phones, or electronic devices are permitted in the testing room. You will need to provide valid photo identification. Scratch paper is usually provided by the testing center and collected afterward.
