What the Course Entails and Exam Details

While there is no mandatory prep "course," the CRNI® exam curriculum is rigorously based on the Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice published by the Infusion Nurses Society (INS). Candidates must demonstrate mastery over four core domains of knowledge that encompass the breadth of infusion nursing. These domains include Technology and Clinical Applications, which covers various access devices and infusion equipment. You must also understand Fluid and Electrolyte Balance and the pharmacology associated with parenteral therapies. Another critical area is Infection Prevention and Safety, emphasizing sterile technique and complication management. Finally, the exam covers the unique needs of Special Patient Populations across the lifespan.

 What to Expect in the Final Exam

The final CRNI® examination is a comprehensive, computer-based assessment. The exam consists entirely of multiple-choice questions designed to test both factual knowledge and application of clinical judgment. There are approximately 150 questions on the test, a portion of which are unscored "pretest" questions used for future exam development. Candidates are allotted a maximum of three hours (180 minutes) to complete the exam. To pass, you must achieve a scaled score that meets the standard established by the Infusion Nurses Certification Corporation (INCC); the exact raw passing score may vary slightly between test versions. No reference materials are allowed during the test session.

• Physical Testing Centers: You may schedule your exam at authorized PSI computer-based testing centers located worldwide. This provides a controlled, quiet environment with on-site proctoring.
• Live Remote Proctoring (LRP): Candidates also have the option to take the exam remotely from a personal computer in their home or office, provided the space meets strict security and technical requirements. This is facilitated through the testing vendor's online portal with a live proctor observing via webcam.
