The Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is
the gold standard of professional accounting.
It is designed for highly motivated accounting and
finance graduates who aspire to achieve the highest level of trust and
technical competence.
The CPA is not just a certification; it is a declaration
of expertise and ethical conduct that is universally recognized.
Our comprehensive practice test focuses specifically on
the Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR) section.
FAR is widely considered the most complex and
volume-heavy section of the four-part CPA exam.
This practice exam is a critical tool for your success.
It allows you to simulate the real-world pressure of the
testing environment and assess your readiness before the actual exam day.
What the Course Entails and Exam Details
The CPA FAR exam, a 4-hour Core section, requires you to
prove conceptual clarity and advanced application of United States Generally
Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP).
The core syllabus and skills you must master include four
major areas:
Financial Reporting (30-40%):
You will be tested on standard-setting, general-purpose financial statements
(including the Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Statement of Cash Flows),
and reporting standards for specific types of entities, such as Not-for-Profit
and State and Local Governments.
Select Balance Sheet Accounts
(30-40%): This area requires deep knowledge of cash, receivables, inventory
valuation, property, plant, and equipment (PPE), investments, and all liability
and equity transactions.
Select Transactions (25-35%):
You must show proficiency in complex scenarios like accounting changes and
error corrections, business combinations, leases, income taxes, foreign
currency transactions, and revenue recognition.
State and Local Governments
(5-15%): A unique challenge of FAR, you must understand governmental fund
accounting and the integration of government-wide financial statements.
Your ability to analyze complex data sets and apply the
correct accounting treatment is paramount to your success on this section.
What to Expect in
the Final Exam
The final CPA FAR section is a rigorous, 4-hour
computer-based test that requires stamina and technical precision.
You will be presented with 5 testlets.
Testlets 1 and 2 consist entirely of Multiple-Choice
Questions (MCQs), which are equally weighted and represent 50% of your total
score.
Testlets 3, 4, and 5 contain Task-Based Simulations
(TBSs), which represent the remaining 50% of your score and are designed to
assess your practical application of knowledge, including the ability to
perform research using the Authoritative Literature and to post complex journal
entries.
You will not encounter Written Communication simulations
in the FAR section.
To pass, you must achieve a scaled score of 75 on a scale
of 0 to 99.
This is not a percentage correct, but a weighted score
reflecting the relative difficulty of the questions you answered.
You are permitted to take a single standardized,
15-minute break between testlets 3 and 4 without pausing the 4-hour exam clock.
How to Study and
Exam Centers
Preparation for the FAR section is intense, often
requiring 100–150 hours of focused study time.
The vast majority of successful candidates utilize a
dedicated CPA Review course, such as Becker, Gleim, or Surgent.
An optimal study method involves three core strategies:
Focus on Task-Based
Simulations: TBSs are critical to passing FAR. We recommend you master journal
entries and authoritative literature research, as these are common simulation
patterns.
Practice Multiple-Choice
Questions: Volume is essential. Do not simply memorize answers. Analyze why
incorrect options are wrong.
Simulate Exam Conditions: Take
full-length, timed mock exams to build endurance. Practice tests, like this
one, identify your specific weaknesses and improve your time management.
All official CPA exams must be taken at an authorized Prometric
Testing Center.
These centers are highly secured physical locations with
strict identification and monitoring rules.
To schedule your final exam, you must first apply through
your state board of accountancy, receive a Notice to Schedule (NTS) from the
National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), and then visit the
Prometric website to locate a testing center near you.
Job Opportunities
from the Course
Passing the CPA FAR exam and ultimately achieving full
licensure unlocks unparalleled career paths and significant salary premiums in
the public, private, and governmental sectors.
The technical expertise in financial reporting that this
section proves is essential for roles such as:
A CPA license can also pave the way to long-term
leadership positions, including Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or managing
