The second component is a series of practical skills
evaluations. During this hands-on portion, candidates are required to
demonstrate their ability to perform tasks such as conducting a proper scene
size-up, establishing site control zones, and managing the logistical support
required for a simulated rope rescue scenario. A minimum passing score,
typically 70% or better on both the written and practical portions, is required
to achieve certification.
How to Study and
Exam Centers
Preparation for this exam demands a blend of careful study
and hands-on practice. Start by thoroughly reviewing all course materials,
including the standard operating procedures and the recommended textbooks, such
as the Jones and Bartlett "Rope Rescue: Principles and Practices."
Pay close attention to definitions, safety-critical information, and procedural
sequences. Create flashcards for key terms, knot types, and mechanical
advantage systems. For the practical portion, visualize the steps for scene
size-up and management and practice leading a team through a mock scenario with
your colleagues, focusing on clear communication and resource coordination.
Utilize the MFRI practice test and review questions to identify areas where you
