1. Rules, Laws, and Regulations This domain tests your expertise in the critical framework governing check payments. Topics include the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) Articles 3 and 4, Regulation CC (Funds Availability), Regulation J (Collection of Checks by Federal Reserve Banks), ECCHO Rules, ACH Rules (relating to check conversions), and general error resolution and indemnification processes.

2. Fraud and Risk Mitigation Here, you will be evaluated on your ability to identify, analyze, and mitigate risks associated with check payments. Key areas include counterfeit and forged items, deposit account fraud, alterations, operational and legal risk, and data security, including business continuity and disaster recovery planning.

3. Operations This section covers the end-to-end processing of checks. You must master item capture, duplicate detection, quality analysis, transaction reconcilement, clearing methods (including image exchange and ACH conversion), returns, and specific adjustment processes.

4. Products The Products domain tests knowledge of both consumer and commercial check products. Topics include Remote Deposit Capture (RDC) and mobile banking, Controlled Disbursement, lockbox processing, remotely created checks, and account reconciliation services like Positive Pay and Payee Positive Pay.


What to Expect in the Final Exam

The final NCP examination is a rigorous assessment of your professional competence. It is a computer-based, three-hour exam consisting of 120 multiple-choice questions.

Candidates take the exam either in person at a designated Pearson VUE testing center or remotely via the OnVUE online proctoring system. There are no scheduled breaks during the three-hour testing period. The passing score for the exam is determined using a statistical process to ensure a consistent standard of knowledge across different versions of the test.
