What the Course Entails and Exam Details

Practical Proficiency Evaluation (Range Qualification): Following the written test, students must successfully complete a course of fire at a shooting range. This evaluation is designed to ensure safe handling and accurate firing at close distances. While the specific course of fire can vary, it often requires firing 30 to 50 rounds from distances such as 3 yards, 5 yards, and 7 yards, with mandatory minimum target hits. Crucially, any safety violation on the range can result in immediate disqualification, regardless of accuracy. There are usually no strict time limits

• If you are a beginner, consider taking additional introductory shooting instruction prior to the qualification class.

Exam Centers: You cannot complete the mandatory training or test online. You must register for an in-person class taught by a state-certified instructor. Look for authorized firearms schools, shooting ranges, or certified instructors who deliver the state-approved syllabus. The practical exam must be completed at a qualifying shooting range.
