The PECT PreK–4 Module 1 core topics include:

1. Child Development, Learning, and Assessment (Approx. 60%): You must understand the major concepts and principles of child development from birth through age 9, including cognitive, linguistic, physical, social, and emotional domains. This section covers learning theories, the impact of diversity on learning, and effective methods for using assessment data to inform instruction and monitor student progress.

2. Collaboration and Professionalism (Approx. 40%): This section evaluates your ability to build positive relationships with families, colleagues, and community partners. You will need to demonstrate knowledge of ethical guidelines, legal rights and responsibilities in the educational setting, and the importance of continuous professional growth.

What to Expect in the Final Exam

Knowing the exam’s structure is essential for reducing test anxiety and optimizing your performance.

• Format: The PECT PreK–4 Module 1 is a computer-based test (CBT).

• Question Type: It consists of 36 selected-response (multiple-choice) questions.

• Time Limit: You will be given 45 minutes to complete the module. If you take all three PreK–4 modules on the same day, you will be given a total session time that includes breaks between modules.

• Passing Score: The qualifying score for each module is set by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. For PreK–4 Module 1, the scaled passing score is 197.

Exam Centers:The PECT exams are administered year-round by Pearson VUE at authorized testing centers. When you are ready to take the exam, you must register through the official PECT website, where you can select your preferred testing date, time, and location. Testing centers are located throughout Pennsylvania and in other states. Additionally, for greater flexibility, some candidates may be eligible to take the exam via OnVUE, an online proctoring service that allows you to complete the test from your home or office, provided you meet specific technical and environment requirements.
