What the Course Entails and Exam Details

The program is structured in two sequential levels of achievement, each requiring students to master specific organizational literacy.

Lone Star Degree (Level 1): The first level focuses on fundamental knowledge of Texas TSA and the national organization. Students must demonstrate proficiency in the TSA creed, motto, and the symbolic meaning of official colors. They are tested on the organization's history, from its founding as the American Industrial Arts Student Association to its evolution into TSA. Knowledge of the state and national officer structure, including current officers and their duties, is essential.

Texan Statesman Degree (Level 2): This advanced level builds directly upon the Lone Star Degree. It requires a deeper, more detailed understanding of all topics covered in Level 1. It may also include more intricate questions regarding parliamentary procedure, the national service project (currently supporting the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life), and specific, historical dates and locations related to Texas TSA's state office. Achieving the Texan Statesman Degree is a mark of a distinguished TSA member with comprehensive organizational expertise.

What to Expect in the Final Exam

The final examination for both the Lone Star and Texan Statesman Degrees is a comprehensive, multiple-choice assessment. While the format is consistent, the passing requirements and difficulty increase between levels.

Lone Star Degree Exam: Students must achieve a minimum score of 75% to be awarded the degree. The questions focus on recall and basic understanding of the foundational elements.

Texan Statesman Degree Exam: This is a more challenging test that must be taken after earning the Lone Star Degree. To pass, students must achieve a minimum score of 80%. The questions are designed to test higher-level recall, detail, and a complete command of the study material.

Both exams are strictly timed. Students are expected to complete the test within the allotted time and must take the exam in person under the supervision of a TSA advisor or an official proctor. No outside resources are allowed during the test.

 How to Study and Exam Centers

Preparation for the Statesman Degrees requires dedicated rote memorization and a thorough review of official Texas TSA and National TSA resources. The primary study tool is the official Texas TSA Statesman Degree Study Guide, which is often updated annually. Students should create flashcards for key dates, officer names, duties, creed lines, and color meanings. Taking practice quizzes and studying in groups is highly recommended.

Exam Centers: The exams are not administered in public testing centers like Pearson VUE or online portals. Instead, they are held exclusively at official Texas TSA events. Students have the opportunity to take the exam at their respective Texas TSA Regional Leadership Conferences and the Texas TSA State Leadership and Career Conference. Students must coordinate with their local TSA chapter advisor to register for the exam and to learn the specific schedule and location for testing at these events.
